HC Orli Znojmo announce first new signings for the upcoming Erste Bank Eishockey Liga season. The most recent one is Jakub Grof. The 33-year old experienced defenseman signs a one-year contract.

Grof was born and raised in Karlovy Vary where he started playing hockey, went up through the ranks of a local youth team and played his first ever Extraliga game at the age of 19. In January 2001, he was a part of the gold-medal winning Czech team at the World Junior Championship.

Later, he changed many clubs in Extraliga and 1. liga, having major spells in Usti nad Labem and Chomutov. While in Chomutov, he also played against Znojmo in 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. Then he moved abroad. First to Landshut in Germany and finally last year to Cortina in Italy. With 32 points in his tally, he became the team´s top scoring defenseman.

"Jakub is a very good offensive-minded defenseman with an excellent shot," says the new sports manager of Znojmo Rostislav Docekal. "We have been following him in Cortina and he made a good impression on us. One of his major contributions to the team should certainly be on power plays,“ adds Docekal. Grof is the third new signing of Znojmo in recent time. Just few days ago, young forward Jindrich Abdul and Slovak defenseman Martin Nemcík both signed their contracts with the club.
