Salzburg clinches first win in the finals

EC Red Bull Salzburg won the third final against HCB Südtirol at home 7:2 and is back in the series. Final four is played on Friday in Bozen, were the Foxes have their second chance to fix the title.

Red Bull made pressure from the beginning. Just in the first Power Play after just 90 seconds Salzburg came near to scoring, but Manuel Latusa and Thomas Raffl could not beat goalie Jaroslav Hübl from close range and after a shot from Dave Meckler the puck missed the net. But in minute 5 the Red Bulls scored the lead, Andreas Nödl poke the puck in. Bozen was under pressure most of the time. The Italians had their first opportunity just in minute 8, but Sebastien Piche shot was an easy task for Brückler. Bozen found now better into the game, but the last chances in this period had once again Salzburg: Captain Matthias Trattnig, Konstantin Komarek and Dave Meckler missed three good opportunities.

In the second period the Italians could equalize quickly: After a good shot from Alexander Egger MacGregor Sharp scored from then rebound – 1:1. The home-team could have answered quickly, but Dominique Heinrich missed to score. But then Thomas Raffl was successful after a good pass from Manuel Latusa with a shot from five, six meters. The Foxes played now more focused and were able to score the 2:2 again from a rebound from Marco Insam. Just 107 seconds later the Red Bulls took advantage from a Power Play to take the lead for the third time: Andreas Kristler was successful with an Onetimer. Bozen on the other side could not take advantage from a Power Play and so Salzburg took a 3:2-lead into the second break.

After the re-start Salzburg tried to decide the game and the Foxes looked to score the equalizer, but both goalies were not to beat. The guests also could not come back in a 4 minutes Power Play. The home-team even had the best chance in this phase, but Motzko missed to score after a break. Salzburg waited now for their counter-chances: While Garrett Roe first was stopped by Jaroslav Hübl, minutes later Evan Brophey finished a counter for the 4:2. Just 46 seconds later Garrett Roe even made the 5:2 in a Power Play. Salzburg then added two more goals from Michael Boivin (58./sh) and an Empty-Net-goal from Florian Mühlstein (59.), won 7:2. Game four in the Best-of-Five-Finals follows now on Friday in Bozen, where the Foxes have their second chance to fix the title.
