Villach welcomes UPC Vienna Capitals with new signed Center Beech.

EC VSV still battles for home advantage in the quarters and yesterday’s last-second win over Znojmo gave them hope again. Klemen Pretnar scored with 0,2 seconds to go for a 4:3 victory. They still have chances to reach fourth place but it’s not in their own steam any more. Now the blue shirts host Vienna, a team against they have lost four of five games this season. “I can remember close matches against them with one exception. They are having a very good defense available but we have to put them under pressure, though. We must play solid hockey for 60 minutes”, says forward Marco Pewal. It was in December 2012 when the Carinthians won the last home game against Vienna, three defeats followed. Captain Gerhard Unterluggauer is suspended.

UPC Vienna Capitals dropped to third place after Wednesday’s overtime defeat in Bozen. It even was the third defeat in a row and they have no chance for the top spot in pick round any more. However, they want to regain the second and they’ll need a win in Villach to pressurize their South Tirolean rivals. This campaign, the Caps have decided both games at Stadthalle to their favour and they also have a season record worth-seeing against Villach. Francois Fortier and Captain Benoit Gratton have both gained nine points each out of five games against VSV. “We know how dangerous their offense can be, especially their first line. We expect another tough game”, reports head coach Tommy Samuelsson who added former NHL center Kris Beech to his roster. The 33-year-old Canadian signed for the remainder of the season, replacing Marcus Olsson in the Caps‘ lineup. Beech, who probably makes his debut tomorrow, took NHL ice 198 times, scoring 67 points.
