Just another setback for the 99ers. For the first time ever the Styrians lost a home game against Dornbirn, but managed to stay ahead of the Bulldogs. The early play in Graz took place in the neutral zone with both teams being carefully because of the importance of the game. The spell was broken with the first good attack by the 99ers, though, when Francis Lemieux netted into the short top corner. Luciano Aquino got the first good shot on goal of Sabourin at the other end, but the game didn’t pick up pace in the first. The hosts were worried on power play but had the tight lead after 20 minutes. The second period was a mere 43 seconds when Martin Grabher-Meier tied it and soon after Jonathan D’Aversa turned the game around with a man advantage. However, also the 99ers produced on PP with Dustin Ballegooie answering promptly. After that goal the Styrians pressed like never before in the match but Olivier Labelle missed the best chance. In the third period new arrival Josh Soares introduced himself to the home crowd, giving a great pass to Olivier Latendresse, who failed because of goalie Adam Dennis. With three minutes to go Dornbirn’s netminder was helpless against Manuel Ganahl, who restored the Graz lead after a 3 on 2 play. Joy was short-lived when Aquino found the back of the net not even a minute later to send the game into overtime. The Bulldogs started with a power play due to a late penalty call against the home team and D’Aversa ended the extra session early, earning the second point with his second of the game.
