After changing their head coach, the Graz 99ers continue to win in the EBEL. The 2:1 vitory at Villach has some kind of a tradition. In Villach, the fans saw an open exchange of blows right from the beginning with Moser Medical Graz99ers being one step ahead in some situations. After seven minutes the visitors got the lead thanks to Greg Day who used a nice pass by Ryan Kinasewich. Now EC VSV piled the pressure and they were rewarded when Michael Forney scored into the top corner on power play. The Carinthians were spurred but Curtis Fraser missed a golden chance. The Styrians did better with Kinasewich retaking the lead late in the first. After the restart there was no real flow of play anymore. The blue shirts had the command but wasted their chances with 99ers goalie Dany Sabourin doing a good job. Late in the middle frame the hosts even were lucky when Manuel Ganahl only hit the post. The guests killed the clock easily in the final 20 minutes as Villach looked a bit tired, suffering the fourth successive home defeat against Graz.
