Freitag, 28.Februar 2014 - 7:50 - Gerhard Unterluggauer of EC VSV got suspended for one game, because of Checking to the Head and Neck Area.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence, the player Gerhard Unterluggauer (#6) of EC VSV, time 44:24, made contact with an opponent that is deemed dangerous in nature. By the Referee a 5/GM was called for Checking From Behind.

As per the EBEL Fundamental Rules V. 5,1(b), the video evidence was sent to PSC(IDOPS) for a final verdict.

From the perspective of PSC (IDOPS), it is clear that Gerhard Unterluggauer (#6) made contact to the head and neck area of the opposing player. Considering the opposing player released the puck while Gerhard Unterluggauer (#6) was located approximately 3 meters from the puck carrier, it is deemed he had sufficient time to alter his speed and/or skating lane which deems the hit late. In addition, Gerhard Unterluggauer (#6) elevated into the hit, used his hands/forearms to inflict contact with the principal point of contact to the head and neck area of the opposing player and used enough force to inflict injury.

What Gerhard Unterluggauer (#6) needs to do is make contact with his shoulder, not make the head and neck area of the opposing player the principal point of contact, not elevate into the opposing player and when located a stick length or greater from the opponent, avoid contact with force.

The contact was delivered by Gerhard Unterluggauer (#6) to the opponent with/by:
- Elevation into opponent
- Hands/forearm were used to make the principal point of contact to opposing players head/neck area
- Used force with arms to propel the opposing players head into the glass

From the perspective of DOPS and PSC(IDOPS) and according to the EBEL Penalty Catalog Ref Nr. 111 – Checking to the Head and Neck Area, Gerhard Unterluggauer (#6) of EC VSV is suspended for 1 game, effective immediately.

Key Points:
1- Initial/principal point of contact to the head/neck area
2 - Contact to head was avoidable
3- Elevation into opponent
4- Not a repeat offender

Procedure regulations part C: roster regulation §1 (7): In cases where a player is suspended for one or more championship games, the suspended player cannot be de-registered or traded during the time of the suspension.

Next game Gerhard Unterluggauer of EC VSV is allowed to play: 02.03.2014 - EC Red Bull Salzburg vs. EC VSV
