Linz beats Austrian Champion

Montag, 14.Oktober 2002 - 13:57 - After losing its first game this season on Friday, the Black Wings of Linz have defeated the Austrian Champions from Villach on Sunday.

The Upper Austrians, last season's Vice Champion, hat to travel to Villach on Sunday to visit the reigning Champion VSV. The first clash of last season's finalists started very well for the Black Wings and in the 2nd minute of play the guests were able to score the first game of the evening.

But then the Champions of VSV took control of the game and had several scoring possibilities, but they could only score twice in this first period. The hometeam increased the pressure during the second period furthermore, but it was the guest, who scored to equalize the score.

From then on the game was completely different and the Black Wings took control. Just before the end of the second period they where able to score again and the score was 3:2 for the Vice Champion before the start of the last period.

Although they where back, the Champion could not strike back. It lastet until the final minutes of the game, until the team from Linz was in its defense again but still they had Pavel Nestak in goal and the forwards of Villach could not defeat him. So it was just a few seconds before the end of the game as the team from Linz scored for the fourth and last time and put the final score to a 4:2 win against the Austrian Champion.

The hosts seem to be ready for this weekend's Continental Cup Tournament in Linz. On Tuesday the Black Wings play the final game before their International debut. The opponent will be the Vienna Capitals, who have never won against Linz in their team history!

In Friday, Oct. 18th, the Black Wings will open their European Weekend against Katowice before challenging Torpedo Kazzinc on Saturday and Grenoble on Sunday.
